It's good news that Tent City has been dismantled and its former inhabitants have finally found homes. But, currently there's a new development or two in the works that pertains to the same general geographic area. One is the extension of a walking path that will run behind the Warrenton Mill, which is probably a good thing and pretty uncontroversial. Another thing is what appears to be the pushing of a very large cell phone tower called "Torrington 3", which is proposed to literally become a major part of the old factory smokestack (in the middle of the Warrenton Mill) that so many residents of Torrington have come to associate with the rich manufacturing and architectural history of the city. Though still not reported in the news media, a major telecom wants to reportedly attach 11 large 4G antennas to the sides of the historical icon, changing its look pretty drastically. So, let's see how these two developments unfold, i.e., the building of a recreational walkway and the transformation of an iconic smokestack into what I (and others) will surely see as a new and unfortunate feature of Torrington. It's unfortunate that the Board of the Warrenton Mill has not yet informed the entire community of owners of the fact the telecom has just recently resumed talks to transform our iconic and historical smokestack into something that many may see as a monstrosity: a "mashup" of the old and beautiful smokestack (visible for miles around) with the new and futuristic wifi antennas of a major commercial enterprise. Let's hope news of this latest development reach at least the majority of condo owners (instead of a select few), so that all owners can have a fair and reasonable opportunity to look into this situation, especially the proposed "lease agreement" for space on the smokestack for the duration of 25 years. And let's not leave out the other people who share the same neighborhood on the North End of Torrington, who should also have a say in the matter. Torrington has been looking a lot better with the revitalization of downtown. Let's try to keep things moving in the right direction, especially when so many of us taxpayers are so very heavily invested in this community. Quite frankly, we cannot afford to see our properties go down in value -- due to actions that make Torrington less appealing to prospective buyers -- as our mill rate goes up. In sum, and speaking for myself, the new hike/bike trail is good, the proposed transformation of a great smokestack into a WiFi tower is bad,
