Description
It's Memorial Day. For the last 3 days, this problem has existed at the apartment complex where we live: Carlton Arms Of St. Petersburg (an Over 55 community, near the foot of Sunshine Skyway Bridge, across from Magnuson Hotel). There is a very large quantity of apparent sewage - specifically feces - all along the shoreline of our little harbor, and out into the bay. The amount fluctuates with tides and currents. At times, it looks like a large pick-up truck load. It forms a floating blanket, mixed among sea grass. It runs along our sea wall, for 100 yards or more, and 20 to 50 feet out into the water. It looks like the news videos of the bad problem in Gulfport during the past year. I recall that was the result of problems with the city sewage system. So, I assume this is the same kind of thing. Since it's obviously a health and environmental issue - not to mention disgusting, unsightly and odorous - my neighbors and I hope the City Of St. Petersburg can take action to fix this problem very soon. Sincerely, Anthony Juliano (The address I gave is where I live. The problem is just outside of our building...and more).

My neighbors and I all feel this is due to the St. Petersburg sewage systems being old, over-worked, and in need of a complete overhaul. We feel it should be made Priority #1. We all moved here from Northern places, to retire to our Over 55 Community. We looked forward to looking out on lovely Tampa Bay, walking our dogs by the waterfront, etc. But this is disgusting filth. We looked forward to enjoying days bathing in the beautiful gulf beach areas. But now, we no longer trust the bacteria levels in the water. We thought we had safe tap water. But now, we buy bottled water.
When will local authorities fix this shameful mess? For what do we pay our taxes? New stadiums?
VERY TRULY YOURS,
ANTHONY
