Keep reporting, contact the mayor, a news crew, whatever it takes. These encampments should be cleaned up once a week, there should be sanitary facilities etc. And there should be certain places to set up camp and some places not allowed.
Personally I believe to City and there street campers advocate they are worth more money camped where they are. Most of these street people are not houseable due mental illness, drug and alcohol addition, criminal convictions, they just cannot follow any rules or a mix of everything. With more 600,000 homeless in the USA our combined governments have completely failed at dealing with huge problem. Someone is getting rich off of this.
There are multiple (MULTIPLE) instances reported that reflect back this specific request - 656972. How many reports are required for somebody to take action? Trash, dumping, health and welfare, drugs, prostitution, and more. This is a safety issue for all. What does it take, a death of an innocent?
At least with SCF the encampment issues are all documented in there data base. At some point a fed up group or person may sue the City over this. Are the taxpayers rights not being violated as well. A petition urging the City to act might be a good start.
It took a violent act to have a homeless encampment removed from our street. No one was hurt but it could have been. A week later they were removed and stayed gone for three years. Don't know if they returned because we moved, but this seems to be what it takes to remove these encampments.

How os it possible that one could think this issue is closed? Anyone who has been to this location today or in the past few months would clearly say that this issue has not been addressed.
My guess is, that public works is being told not to do it. I find it odd that they keep closing the homeless issues, when really nothing was done. It's happened too many times.

I just joined SCF today and have reported several issues with homeless camps that I encounter on my daily bicycle commute between Emeryville and Oakland. Going back through the listings, I see that these were reported by others as well, and nothing appears to have been done about it (at least on the Oakland side of things). I know these people are down & out, doing what they can, and just seeking shelter, but some of them (most?) strew trash around, defecate and urinate in/on the street, sidewalk, or gutters, and it's intolerable to the point of being a public safety issue...yet Oakland does nothing. What must we do to get this issue addressed?
I don't know what the answer is, but I've suggested several times that the city needs to put the homeless on a city owned lot with sanitary facilities, services, trash pickup at the cities expense. They need to get the church involved, organizations, to help these folks, and they all be in one area. Other cities are doing it, but Oakland Just refuses to deal with this issue. Maybe a lawsuit against the city for not addressing an unsafe situation is one way. I want the mayor too say something and it never happens. Maybe shaming by some news stations, I'm not sure, but it's time for all this to stop.
Seattle is doing it, Sacramento is on the way to try it, and it's a great idea. They have their own space, they govern themselves, their trash is picked up on a regular basis and who knows maybe they'd feel better about themselves because it would be less stress than being removed all the time. I just want something done. Especially with all the syringes that ate thrown everywhere. Whoever hands out the needles, needs to be held responsible for picking them up. I believe they also need some kind of sanitary facility. Does the city think that we the public need to be walking through their feces. There's something wrong with that.
