Rush hour traffic on Alewife Brook Parkway, Fresh Pond Parkway, Route 2, Massachusetts Avenue and Rindge Avenue is almost as bad as Cambridgepark Drive. Any adjustment of the traffic lights getting off Cambridgepark Drive will just move the location of the problem down the road. I think there are a couple of very doable solutions. One solution is express buses from suburban hubs to the Alewife Station. The second solution is to dust off and implement the City of Cambridge 2013 design study for a commuter rail stop at Alewife. These solutions would reduce traffic not just on Cambridgepark Drive but also on all near-by roads. It would take the Cambridgepark Drive property owners working with the MBTA, the Mass. Department of Transportation, the Cambridge Community Development Department, the Cambridge City Council, and the Cambridge and suburban state representatives and senators whose districts are affected all working together. If they work together I bet express buses could be running from suburban hubs to the Alewife Station within a few months and a basic commuter rail stop could be implemented within a year.
I drive it every night 2-3 times during rush hour doing deliveries. I get @#$% because they are doing construction on a lot of the streets. I can't understand why they can't do one street at a time. Its just that there is to many cars on the road
