I contacted and left voice mail messages with three Needham beekeepers listed on the Norfolk County Beekeepers Association site. Hopefully, one will come and collect the swarm. It is about 10 feet from a door on the playground and readily accessible (about 6 inches off the ground). I advised the custodians to try to put barrier tape or a snow fence around it so kids won't get too close. There's a good chance that the swarm will depart by itself by morning, or within a day.
It should NOT be sprayed with any pesticide, as that could violate State regulations and be unjustified. The bees are fairly docile and pose very little risk unless someone harasses them.

The Department of Public Works has received this issue and will forward it to our Highway Division for investigation. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention.
