They at least need to make the lights for the side roads work together. The cars that are there can both go at the same time because 99.9% of the time they're both turning left. At least do that for us so it will at least help a little bit.

The lights are horrible on Rt 17, especially during rush hour traffic. Just imagine how much worse things are going to be when Benn's Grant is built. These stoplights either need to be timed better or removed. Traffic backs up to the draw bridge in the afternoons - all due to the poor timing of the lights.

I second this motion! It's amazing how any government operation could be so poorly run! To think we spend millions of dollars of tax payer money to do a traffic study on prescription drug use (so we can make more laws and have less freedoms) but can't get three traffic lights to turn green together.

Yes, I too have sat in the traffic at the end of the JRB. Question... Anyone else see anything wrong with the picture at the end of the JRB?!? Those nice "end of the world, we can shut the bridge down now from a little booth, Bullet-Proof Bomb Shelter, & Nuclear Resistant (Because of the Ship-Yard), titanium plated, chrome-reversible brass" gates... complete with traffic lights and solar powered (go GREEN baby!) signs!

Pretty funny considering that the same job has been done with two things in the past: A Deputy (Police Officer) and a $30,000 police car. Hmmm.

It doesn't surprise me that our government would overlook the obvious and invest in the frivolous.

Lights are getting worse.....by the way, who paid for these lights. Heard rumblings that these were put up for Eagle Harbor and contractors.....if so, TAKE THEM DOWN.

VDOT, Isle of Wight County, Someone out there... YOU HAVE A MAJOR TRAFFIC CONGESTION PROBLEM HERE. Quit studying the problem an FIX IT already! HOW LONG DO THE CITIZEN HAVE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS BEFORE SOMETHING GETS DONE! This has been made aware to you OVER A YEAR AGO. Send someone out there and get the timing right on these lights. It's not rocket science. Hold the side traffic during the Shipyard rush hour! At the very least, get a deputy out there to direct traffic during the rush hour. This isn't New York City, we shouldn't have traffic problems like this, especially if it's an easy fix! GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND FIX THE PROBLEM ALREADY!

Saw a whole bunch of VDOT vehicles sitting by the intersection(s) the other day. They appear to still be studying the problem here?!? I heard that they spent over $90,000 tax dollars on those three lights! You would think for that price they would work like they are supposed to.

"I heard VDOT laid off over 2,000 people last week. Why? They found a shovel that could actually stand up by itself!"

It's been two years and absolutely nothing has been done to improve this situation. Every morning I stop for one or more of these light and every evening it is backed up to the JRB for no other reason than the fact that they cannot properly time these three lights.

Just think of how many man hours and gallons of gas are wasted here every day.

Two and a half years later and I have given up any hope that this will be corrected. Guess it is just too much to ask.

Since VDOT in IW doesn't have the expertize to correct this issue, perhaps they could call in a consultant, someone with the proper training and experience to time 3 traffic lights properly. I sure wish they would do something!!!!

Still nothing has been done about this situation. A couple weeks ago the MM was blocked by an accident and the gridlock from these 3 lights backed up North bound traffic on 17 for 20 minutes. Once you are through the lights going in either direction it is wide open. Very same issue happens every evening when traffic backs up onto the JRB caused totally by the poor timing of these lights.

Last week there was an accident blocking the M&M. This loaded more traffic onto the JRB resulting in a backup of over 5 miles. It took more than 45 minuted just to cross the bridge, not because of the extra traffic but because of the poor timing of the three lights at the end of the bridge in IW.

If these lights were properly timed or using sensors that could detect traffic load, these backups would not happen. Can someone there please fix this issue, it has been going on since these lights were installed years ago. It is obvious there is no one at VDOT capable of accomplishing this task so perhaps they could hire a contractor with the necessary skills.

Seven years and nothing has changed. These lights are still not synchronized and backup traffic in this area every day.

Nothing has changed. It is still almost impossible to get through al three of these lights without stopping for at least one of them. And at rush hour traffic still backs up onto the bridge. Is anyone even looking into fixing this issue after more than 7 years?

Traffic headed North in the morning backs up and in the evening the Southbound traffic backs up on to the JRB, all because of the poor timing of these 3 lights. Obviously no one at the DOH cares or perhaps they just have no idea how to fix the issue. Either way I no longer expect this to be fixed.

These 3 lights have caused major traffic backups almost every day for more than 8 years. I am beginning to lose faith that anything will ever be done to fix this issue.

Not much has changed. Traffic still backs up from these 3 lights every day. I don't remember ever driving through this area without stopping for at least one of these lights. Last week, after an extended bridge lift traffic backed up the entire length of the JRB for hours because of these 3 lights. This situation is getting worse every year.

After more than 10 years I have kind of given up hope that anything will improve along this stretch of road. In fact, as more poorly timed lights are installed I expect the traffic mess to become much worse.

Fourteen years and the proplem continues to get worse. Maybe this will be the year it gets fixed. 🤣😂
