Blue ford focus, red audi. I don't think they are being malicious but it is illegal and their engines are extremely loud. Further compounding the issue is that the rear door of the business is frequently left open and as it is a car repair shop the noise can be defeaning.

Tonight we are being treated to a combined car washing and car idling party. They are supposedly closed at 8 but are in the process of revving their engines and washing cars.

To be fair, they left by 8:10. Perhaps they could wash their cars with the engines turned off in the future? Hoping for a positive resolution for both sides to this issue.

Problem still continuing more than 2 months later, mainly the red audi. Can anything be done?

15 mins of the blue car so far tonight. Really fed up of asking them to stop and bring ignored. There is a paper sign about idling on the back door (which is now constantly open).

Cambridge Police are pretty responsive to excessive noise from private property at night. You'll need to voice call them (non-emergency) while it's happening though: 617-349-3300

Thanks for the advice! We have called the police about some more serious and threatening behavior in the past but as it is a business legal advice was to involve the licensing comission. For example today the employees are repairing one of their own vehicles in the rear parking lot, which is not allowed but is also not something I think the police will be able to resolve. The neighborhood is just very fed up of their inability to follow basic rules at this point, especially since they are open 13 hours daily 363 days per year.

Again today. Could someone from the inspection or license division please speak to them? They/the manager don't seem aware if the law. The pickup truck (another modified exhast system) has been on for 20 minutes and the driver is sleeping in the vehicle.

When seen and immediate attention is required, please call the Cambridge Police Non-Emergency Line at 617-349-3300 so that a unit can be dispatched. The License Commission or Traffic Dept. would not be able to respond as quickly or with as much authority to issue violations as Cambridge Police.

Yet the police, when i have called them, tell me it is a license commission issue and that they cannot do anything. It would be great if you could put a 311 service in place as Somerville already does for its residents so that issues like this are dealt with in a timely manner, not more than a year later.

A Cambridge Police Business Outreach Officer responded to this business on Thursday, October 12 and spoke with the Manager. The manager informed our officer that he has since spoken to all of his staff with regards to allowing vehicles to idle in excess of five minutes. Hopefully, this will alleviate the issue going forward.
