Description
It's getting dark earlier and the residents who live at Boylan Apartments park across West Morgan. There is a mid-street crosswalk for residents to use, and the speed limit is 25. However, most cars after work hours (anytime really) are going 40-45 down this street. It is already a blind crosswalk, but at that speed and with it getting dark earlier, someone is going to get killed. Can the City put up a flashing light for this crosswalk, maybe some rumble strips in the street and some paint in the street before the crosswalk, or at the least, get the RPD out there regularly issuing citations? Thank you!

I've referred this to our Public Works Department. I will update this issue when I have heard back from them. Thanks for reporting.

I think a flashing yellow light on the crosswalk sign or crosswalk ahead painted on the street is an excellent idea! Nobody, and I mean nobody does the speed limit on West Morgan Street.

It's no different at 7am. The speeding along West Morgan Street is really out of control.

On Sunday morning (11-11) at 10am, there was a RDP car, with an African American officer driving, doing at least 40-45 through this 25mph stretch.

This is three months old with no solution. Unacceptable. Put a raised crosswalk in with reflectors and mark it well. Then, drivers will be trained to slow down there every time, regardless of pedestrians.

The city will move the pedestrian warning signs to make them more visible on the eastbound approach and will verify that the existing lighting is adequate at night. Morgan Street is classified as a Major Thoroughfare and is not eligible for traffic calming devices such as raised crosswalks. The speeding issue will be forwarded to RPD for enforcement.

Beg to differ. The police have pulling people over in the last week or two in the 800 block of West Morgan. There has been a motorcycle officer working at the corner of West Morgan and Mayo. Also the corner of West Morgan and Snow. They may not have slowed everybody down, but they sure have put a dent in the speeding. Thanks RPD.

The cops need to be out there about 7:00 to 8:00am!
I appreciate their diligence!
