We have tested sirens for the past two weeks. The two weeks prior to that, we did not due to the weather conditions at the time. We have constant contact with all sirens and they are tested silently every morning. If one isn’t functioning, we receive an alert.
Depending on what type of siren is near their house, different things may affect how well they hear it. Was the person outdoors or indoors? Sirens are meant to be outdoor warning devices. Sometimes they can be heard indoors, but that is not the intent. Newer homes are built with more insulation and soundproofing than older homes. So if their house is all closed up, they may not hear a siren outside, whereas they might when a window or door is open. Wind and other background noises (TV, radio, traffic, etc) can also affect whether or not a siren is heard.
The person didn’t say where they live, so we can’t know which siren they are talking about. Please assure them that we pay very close attention to all of the sirens and if one isn’t working we will be checking on it. If they’d like to provide us with their location, we will be sure and check it out.
