This is Chinatown! This ambience is what tourists come to experience! For heaven's sake, let's not go mad on code enforcement. I suggest leaving the homeless alone and allowing them to maintain their neatly kept campsites on the portions of MLK and Castro that are under the freeway where the sidewalks are largely unused. I suggest leaving the sidewalk encroachment alone in Chinatown as well. If it bothers you, don't go there. Regarding both places.
imskectical any other laws, ordinances, rules and statutes we should just ignore and write it of as ambiance. Heath codes, ADA requirements, illegal dumping, spray vandalism, public defecation, business licenses where is your free will cut off point.

Coleman: As a matter of fact I think a lot of these busybody ordinances should be rewritten and many should be deleted altogether, thanks for asking. A number of ordinances would be found unconstitutional if challenged, and never should have been enacted in the first place. They seem popular with petty, small-minded people, as well as people trying to cause problems for competing businesses. I've also noticed that some on ClickFix object to having to "look at" the homeless, and would object to facilities for the homeless being located anywhere in their vicinity, no matter how clean or neat, and no matter what city services were offered. These people are petty and small-minded, IMO, as are people who object to Chinatown being Chinatown.
imskeptical I use to be an anarchist until I ran into the what about me give um an inch they will take ten miles human race. Rules are rules until they are changed. I am sure your next life as a politician/ Major will be rewarding. Until then us small minded people and the handicapped do not want to have to walk in the streets in Oakland's China town to get around blocked sidewalks.
