Description
Dangerous broken pedestrian cross-walks on all four corners at the intersection of Bellevue Avenue & Narragansett Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. This pedestrian cross-walk has not worked in over a year and it is very dangerous to cross without getting nearly hit by speeding cars at this very busy intersection. The problem is that when the traffic lights change, the cross-walk signals never change to "walk," there is only ever a red "don't walk" hand signal on all four corners. I have almost been hit by cars at the intersection many times, witnessed near-accidents and have seen other walkers, joggers and tourists confused as when to cross, almost run over by vehicles turning. Tourism season in Newport is beginning and the mansions along Bellevue Avenue (including the Preservation Society of Newport County which has its headquarters on this intersection) are central to pedestrian activity, not to mention that Narragansett Avenue leads to the 40 Steps and Cliff Walk. Please have this cross-walk checked and repaired as soon as possible, I would hate for anyone to get hurt or worse, killed by the neglect of the City of Newport. I have included images all taken on April 4, 2016 which show the busy intersection, cross-walk and light poles, none of which showed any sign of a visible identification number as requested.
