Description

Since the reconstruction of the Twin Bridges' aging bridge decks is now well underway, I think now is the perfect time to begin to modernize this bridge even further in preparation for future traffic volume increases, by installing highway lights on the bridges themselves, and also around the approaches to the bridge on both sides of the Mohawk.

This stretch of the Adirondack Northway (Interstate 87) has traditionally been the scene of multiple fatal accidents and many tragic high-speed crashes, and I believe that the need for safer, more well-lit sections of this busily-traveled highway is only too self-evident.

It is inconceivable to drive around many of the busiest interstates in the Capital District, and realize that there are many sections without proper highway illumination! Most other similar-sized cities with comparable traffic volumes on its major interstates have highway lighting on their darker sections. Why doesn't the Capital District?

If we are truly striving to be a world-class center of education and technology, the least we could do is improve our infrastructure to reflect such goals and ideals.
