I have seen for the past couple of weekends, that some folks have finally found the bike racks near the ramp coming onto RI from the helix. What might be useful and make it more comfortable for it to be used more is more color (paint the cement?), signage and better/more lighting so you can see when what you're doing when locking or unlocking your bike lock. What's with the message about "currently considering placing a bike rack by the Motorgate Garage Atrium"? What does this mean and why would you spend money on that when you've already got a very good visible space to park bikes? Please respond.

I'm hopeful they meant that a rack near 40RR was in the works. I'd feel uncomfortable leaving my bike under the helix, in the dark, behind the wall in that circle. I can't see it there. If there were a rack in the covered walkway area near the 40RR exit of Motorgate, though, I'd have no problems parking my bike there (and the many that are chained to the scaffolding and park fence would likely feel the same.

Thanks for the additional information, Mark. I wasn't aware that RIOC was actually considering putting any bike racks at the other end of the garage.

In fact I agree that there needs to be good lighting where the bike racks already exist in order to be any kind of inducement to for the public to use what's already in existence. It's dark in that area even during the daytime. Some kind of motion sensitive lighing would be great if it were at all possible.
