Thank you for your request. As you stated, the CVC already makes parking within 15' of a fire hydrant illegal. Adding red curb to this would double the violations a parked car would receive for parking in front of a hydrant. Also, because we receive many requests for red curb in front of fire hydrants, Traffic Engineering only approves such request when other safety factors are involved such as improving the sight distance at intersections.
