These steps need to be fixed in 2016, as soon as possible. Code violation. Whether SSM owns it or someone else, the steps need to be brought up to code standards. It looks like the roof needs to be replaced as well.

This is architecturally an important structure and its history is associated with 19th century important St. Charles family. It is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It deserves to be treated with great care to say nothing of the safety hazards existing here. And these stairs should be replaced with stone materials which I believe they are now and not new white concrete. Most owners would have been cited frequently by local code enforcement officers and remedy would have been required. Shame on this owner !!

The city (front steps to city hall this past summer), Lindenwood, and St Joseph Hospital are exempt from all ordinances. The steps actually wooden if I am correct. I believe they are railroad ties. The house was built and designed by the same guy who built St. Peter Catholic Church, St. John United Church of Christ, and Immanuel Lutheran. His son was a doctor who lived in the house. He was a doctor.

I was mistaken. The steps are stone.

Can someone on City staff please ensure the City Council and the Landmarks Board have visibility with the issues posted here in this forum? It seems that this property is only one of many that have been neglected in our City of St. Charles. I agree with the other comments that the architectural and aesthetic integrity of this historic structure need to be properly maintained.

This property is owned by the County. I will be passing along all concerns regarding this issue.

The building in question here (and shown in the picture) with the dangerous stone steps is owned and operated by SSM Health Care. The County owned building at 100 North 3rd Street (the old capitol building) is not a part of this complaint.

The address was stated as 100 N. 3rd street ( which is the County building). Upon review the correct address for this building is 100 S. 3rd street which is the property of the hospital. Our Community Development Department will be sending a letter to Hospital Administration recommending that the steps be fixed.

Looks like St Joseph SSM enjoys the Lindenwood University special treatment. Just like the front steps to city hall last year were exempt from ordinances while being repaired.

If you are Lindenwood, SSM, or Ameristar, you may feel free to trash the city at will. It is an understanding, and "good government" policy that these organizations have, among other privileges:

-Poke local children with sharpened sticks at random

-Permission to hurl large Gideon bibles at residents
*Pref on Sunday, but any day will do

-Expressed authorization to micturate/defecate upon any/all known statues or landmarks

-First rights to our women on the night of marriage
