Unfortunately, there are no bylaws, ordinances, or regulations which pertain to the aesthetics of any given property in town. We apologize for the inconvenience and fully understand the frustration you may feel when you see a property that may not be the prettiest, however, there are no regulations that govern "eyesores", as most of these conditions are opinion-based. The BOH, as an act of good faith, will contact the Stoneham Housing Authority and notify them of the complaint, and ask that they look into it, however, please understand that any inhabited residential building is considered private property, so the BOH's jurisdiction is very limited, considering the conditions do not pose a threat to the health or wellness of the residents of Stoneham.

Isn't this town property? Not private?

Any inhabited residential property is considered private property. It is a Housing Authority property, but it the units are inhabited by a private residents. As previously stated, the SHA will be contacted to inform them of the complaint, but there are no regulations to enforce regarding this type of complaint from the Board of Health's perspective. We will ask that the SHA take the proper steps to ensure that the residents of Calthea Street are performing their due diligence to make sure the properties don't become eyesores.
