Description

A new No Turn on Red sign has been placed on Somerville Ave, facing Beacon St, where cars turning right from Beacon onto Somerville could formerly turn on red, when safe. A sign was also placed there back in 2011, but due to the havoc it wreaked on the traffic at the already-busy intersection, it was subsequently removed after a few months. I'm wondering why we're trying it again? Has there been an increase in accidents involving vehicles turning on red? Allowing cars to turn on red does a lot to help alleviate the buildup of cars down Beacon St, particularly during rush hour. If the sign must remain, I'd ask that you please consider a green arrow to allow cars to turn right onto Somerville Ave while at the same time as cars turning left onto Beacon St (from Somerville Ave). Thanks very much.
