Description
The road needs to be re-paved, AND it needs to be lowered, or the bridge needs to be raised to 14 feet {as opposed to like 12'6"}. Flooding needs to be handled as well. There is no reason for this narrow, dangerous section of Route 85 to still be funneling all the traffic from the hilltowns under that old rickety bridge.

I agree. And plus, trains haven't rolled over that bridge in 25 years or so.
If there are no plans to bring back train service through that corridor (which I think would be a mistake, since we need as many infrastructure options open as possible in this day and age) then that crumbling bridge should be torn down and the underpass should be properly evened out on both sides to mitigate the constant flooding, as you suggest.

If the county can raise the money for the rail trail, this bridge will be replaced with a footbridge at a higher elevation. This won't solve the drainage issues, but it will get the bridge out of the State's way, allowing them to solve it.
Donations can be maide to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, attention: friends of the rail trail

"According to a new report by the Political Economy Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, building bike lanes and pedestrian projects, and bike boulevards, create more job per million dollars spent than road repairs and road resurfacing."
