Description
A crew from Pipe Spy is doing work on south bound Shellmound south of Christie Ave, but inexplicably decided to also block the northbound bike lane with this construction sign, even though there is zero work going on this side of the street. Please contact Pipe Spy to ensure they do not block bikeways with signage in the future, and ensure that city staff develops appropriate traffic control plans with all utility projects in the future.

I came back the other direction (southbound) on this same stretch last night, and the Pipe Spy crew had packed up for the evening but left a metal plate in the bike lane to cover the hole they were working on until they returned. This plate was hard to see in the dark, and had a sharp, rather tall edge which could easily cause a crash or at least a flat tire if a bicyclist rolled over it unaware.
Usually when crews leave out metal plates like this, especially on bike routes, they soften the edge with some asphalt to protect road users, especially bicyclists, who roll over it.
Again, please follow up with Pipe Spy to encourage them to increase their safety protocol and traffic mitigation standards for the work they are doing around Emeryville.
