Unacceptable. I thought it was illegal for people to live on a public street in RV's. And why are they parked by a school and kiddie park? R they issuing tickets to them , like they would the rest of us. If not, someone needs to find out why. What is Oakland doing, why are city leaders allowing the city to get to the point of no return. Sounds like some of these leaders need to quit starting with Ms. Schaaf.

The camping is even worse down the block. They appear to have a vehicle parked up on the sidewalk and have almost blocked the sidewalk with their hoard of junk. Public Works keeps passing on these complaints to OPD. Is OPD doing anything about this?

Something is going on in this city, that isn't right. Its getting worse by the minute. I've never seen Oakland as bad as it now. Since when r the homeless above the laws. Oakland is an unhealthy city to live and its time to leave. How does a city allow people to defecate all over its sidewalks, allow syringes to be thrown wherever, live in RV's outside a school and think that others should pay to clean up after them. Oakland is being played by the homeless.

PWD it is your job to maintain the streets and sidewalks you need to call OPD and Abandoned auto. How much do you want your SCF Pro-Bono volunteers to do. How many large empty warehouses like American steel studios are there in Oakland? It would be cheaper for the City to just buy one to house all these so called homeless RV, street and park campers. What the city is doing now is not working. There's been RVs on this block since 2015 on Goggle street view.

Oakland is a third world city . I don't even want to see it in another year.

@david coleman, American Steel is hardly an empty building; there are over 150 tenants with workshops, small businesses, studios and more contained in the 6 acre building. Its been a thriving community since 2007, and dedicated to working with the City of Oakland to improve its surroundings.
@simplyblu, don't know what to tell you, I really love Oakland, and I'm glad theres ways to be a squeaky wheel; I hope its in ways that are effective for DPW.

Never thought I'd live next to so many shanty towns. Wondering why I don't see RVs in the Oakland Hills neighborhoods, lots of spaces there to camp out. Perhaps the homeless don't know how pretty it is up there? How can we inform them about all the other neighborhoods where they might try camping out at?

the campers are well aware that they would be hustled out of the "better" neighborhoods in a matter of hours, whereas it is obvious there is no enforcement in this part of Oakland.

Call the Abandoned Auto Detail at (510) 777-8622.
Open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Email the location, description, and license number of the vehicle, if known, to AbandonedAuto@oaklandnet.com.

don't waste your time with "Abandoned Auto Detail" - there are people living in these campers and therefore they are not considered "abandoned". OPD won't do a thing, they drive by campers with no registrations, no license plates, and debris piled into the street making 2-way traffic very dangerous. . OPD won't even knock on the door of these campers and tell them to get their stuff out of the line of travel. This happens every day in our part of West Oakland, even though I have repeatedly called the OPD non-emergency line.
