Description
Because of the renovations to Street Hall, the construction company had to make a temporary crosswalk on High Street. If you think we should have a crosswalk like this permanently, perhaps right at Library Walk, vote here by clicking "I want this fixed too!"
Alternatively, if you have experienced problems with the temporary crosswalk on High Street, you should feel free to voice those concerns here too.

Moving the crosswalk to this location would be ideal. Library Walk should continue straight across High Street (and York Street, but that's a different issue, literally—http://seeclickfix.com/issues/3369).

I love this new crosswalk. Great traffic calming.
The most livable cities in the world have very frequent crosswalks like these (even every 100-200 feet in some areas), and New Haven definitely should as well. It would make Downtown New Haven more walkable and draw additional visitors and shoppers.
Additional crosswalks are needed on York, Chapel, Elm, College, Church, Orange, Center, and various other locations.

If not, local residents should submit a "complete streets request form" to the city and demand one.
Also, thanks to the efforts of many students, staff and faculty, Yale University will be appointing an official "traffic safety committee" within its administration starting next year. The committee will be requesting improvements such as this one through more formal channels.

Students can cross at College street or at York Street. Is it too much to ask for 20-somethings to walk less than half a block to cross the street? Motorized traffic is already forced to stop 4 times in a 1/4 mile stretch. The exhaust from all these idling vehicles is enough, and you want to cause more congestion rather than walk 50 feet?

Cartman, the block between Chapel and Elm is actually more like 800 feet long, not 50 feet. Brian is requesting a crosswalk at Library Walk, which is at the middle of the block. If you want to discuss this issue in more detail, please begin by quoting actual facts.
Bottom line is, nobody is going to walk 400 feet to cross at Elm or Chapel, when they can walk 30 feet to cross High Street at the mid block. We need to begin designing cities the way people use them, not the way they are seen by incompetent traffic planners.
It is time to immediately install a crosswalk and ramp system such as the one Brian Tang recommends. Speeds also must be reduced so that road users of all ages and abilities will feel comfortable and be safe using it.
