Perhaps some cat track dashed markings are needed across the intersection?

Q. What is your area of concern?
A. No Markings - Traffic Markings.
A. No Markings - Traffic Markings.
Q. Why is this a concern?
A. The eastbound Memorial Dr. approach lanes to Bagby do not match the lanes on the far side of Bagby. For example, if an eastbound Memorial vehicle is in the second-from-right lane as it approaches Bagby, it's hard to tell which lane this vehicle should go to on the far side of Bagby. This causes confusion and uncertainty for drivers.

A field investigation was conducted on 12/22/2015 at 12:35PM for right turn only markings for Memorial (EB) approach to Bagby & Texas a signalized intersection. The investigation determined the alignment of the right lane for Memorial DR (EB) approach to Bagby is compromised because the receiving right lane for Texas on the east side of Bagby is offset and restricted by mixed metered & (NP) restrictions with 3-unrestricted receiving lanes to match up with the Memorial (EB) approach to Bagby. This location is under the supervision and management of TRANSTAR. LAGAN Seeclickfix contact not available.

Hi,
I received the closure notification for this issue and I believe the recommended solution would cause greater problems. Thus, I'm offering the following request for the City to reconsider the proposed solution.
The City's recommended solution in the closure notice appears to be to force the EB right lane of Memorial Drive, as it approaches Bagby, to turn right. However, the eastbound lanes of Memorial Drive, as they approach Bagby, are subject to severe congestion in the AM traffic peak. It is common for 20 or more car lengths to stack up during this period -- well past not just I-45, but past Houston Ave!
As a result of this congestion, all 4 lanes of eastbound Memorial Drive must be able to continue straight, through Bagby. The heavy right turn for EB traffic is at the next intersection, Smith Street -- not Bagby. And since the right lane of Memorial between Bagby and Smith is signed for no parking in the morning, this works well in the morning -- the most critical period. Forcing the right lane to turn right at Bagby would cause a bottleneck at an already congested intersection.
The current situation works OK and perhaps nothing is actually needed. But it seems like some cat tracks for EB traffic would ensure the right 2 lanes know where to go.
By the way, I'm a City employee (in the Planning and Development Department) and you're welcome to call me during the day to discuss at 832-393-6589. Thank you.
Patrick Walsh
