An Ordinace Officer will go onsite to see if there are any Ordinance violations. However, in general:
The City of Allen Park or The Downriver Central Animal Control are not responsible for rat/rodent control.
As a community, we need to work together to eliminate this issue by practicing the following:
(1) Use metal trash cans with lids or keep your trash indoors.
(2) Keep your lawn cut short and bushes trimmed away from the ground.
(3) If you need to feed birds, do so with a feeder inaccessible to rats--if you're are feeding them on the ground, you are also feeding the rats. (4) Clean your dog's waste daily.
(5) Keep piles of wood raised off the ground.
(6) Store pet food indoors or in rat proof containers.
(7) Address any rodent holes you find in your yard.
(8) Remove any unused yard furniture or debris in your yard that rats could use as a home.
(9) There is also the option of pest repellents and traps, just be sure to take precaution to keep pets and children safe (rat poison is not recommended as it could also kill our pets).
INTERNATIONAL PROPERTY CODE MAINTENANCE 302.5 RODENT HARBORAGE:
ALL STRUCTURES AND EXTERIOR PROPERTY SHALL BE KEPT FREE FROM RODENT HARBORAGE AND INFESTATION. WHERE RODENTS ARE FOUND, THEY SHALL BE PROMPTLY EXTERMINATED BY APPROVED PROCESSES WHICH WILL NOT BE INJURIOUS TO HUMAN HEALTH. AFTER PEST ELIMINATION, PROPER PRECAUTIONS SHALL BE TAKEN TO ELIMINATE RODENT HARBORAGE AND PREVENT REINFESTATION.
