Description

To Whom it May Concern,

The traffic light at Plymouth Ave and Rodman St for north-bound traffic on Plymouth is not programmed correctly. New sensors for this stop light were installed this year. The traffic pattern in the north-south directions is such that first, left-hand turns are allowed to go, and once the turning traffic has cleared, the opposite direction is given the green light. Then the light remains green until traffic has cleared. However, in the morning, traveling northbound on Plymouth to get to I-195, what happens is the following:
1. There are a lot of cars travling southbound on Plymouth taking a left onto Rodman eastbound.
2. Not many cars are typically traveling northbound on Plymouth taking a left onto Rodman westbound.
3. Because of this, Plymouth southbound thru-traffic is given a green light.
4. By the time the cars turning left on Rodman eastbound clear up, so has the through traffic.
5. Plymouth northbound through traffic is given a green light, but for barely any time. It immediately turns yellow then red. At best 3 or 4 cars will get through.

This ends up resulting in traffic getting backed up on Plymouth northbound for no reason, and it can take 2-4 cycles through the lights to finally get through. I believe this to be the result of either
A) faulty weight sensors in the northbound lanes or
B) sub-par programming of the lights based on the sensor data. It could be the lights are triggered by both the sensors and timer value.

I commute to work via 24N. It used to be very simple with 79N open. Since the new construction, I’ve taken I-195E to 24N. Since the sensors have been put in, this intersection is even worse than it used to be when it was just on timers. Please fix this.
