The new light at 16 and Union Lake is WAY TOO LONG! I don't really see a reason for the in the first place to be honest. I've never seen and accident or had any problems in all the years I've lived here. However, the light doesn't bother me it's the sequencing that's ridiculously dangerous. I have literally timed it and I have waited 3 minutes. the times seem sporadic. The cars in the morning have been easily lined up a quarter mile back. You can see every driver cursing and upset. People are running that red light like crazy, which is much more dangerous than when the light simply wasn't there. Then when the light finally turns greens most people are turning right so the people turning left get screwed and even more mad. So what did they start doing...?!.. They started pulling out of the line and crossing the double yellow line into the oncoming traffic lane so they can make the short green light the Union Lake gets. Now that is INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS!!! Most of us going that way and traveling from 7am-9am are trying to get our kids to school and it is not only causing us to have to leave 15 minutes earlier (RIDICULOUS), which is incredibly difficult at times and unnecessary in many of us parents' eyes simply because there is no traffic going east on 16 Mile in the morning and the only traffic going west is getting off the Expressway. Why do the residents that live off Union Lake trying to get our kids to school suffering and being put in danger because people are getting so angered. I've seen 2 accidents since the light has been put in. So that's 6 years, no light, no accidents, and no problems. Now, Traffic Light, only 2-3 weeks, already 2 accidents, and many problems. Mornings are already very hard for us parents but the most important thing is how dangerous it is. I saw a Sheriff's car pull into Clinton Manor and people were so angered at waiting that they went through red light to turn left onto 16 mile as the police car turned right onto Union Lake and then into Clinton Manor. It's so ridiculous that people are willing to get ticketed for this!?!?! That tells you something doesn't it. We don't deserve to get ticketed because of this unnecessary light was not studied enough first. The traffic engineers need to really look into this soon. I am truly scared for the snow to start falling. I went to turn out this morning and saw traffic was backed up all the way back passed Clinton Manor main entrance so first thing I thought was that's a few accidents waiting to happen and I'm not putting my children in danger so I had to go left and take the long way around because I knew it would've taken over ten - fifteen minutes waiting in line. That's absolutely ridiculous! No sensors? Incredibly inconvenient, unnecessary, and most importantly dangerous. Please do something for the residents of Union Lake. We just want to get our kids to school SAFE, unharmed, ON TIME, without anger and anxiety. Apologies for the lengthiness but there is more than one issue on deck here.
