The section of Highland Ave. a half mile in either direction from around 800 Highland Ave., is ridiculously bad. The road is just a wreck. So, for that matter, is your car, after being forced to travel regularly over this glorified ox cart path for years. I sometimes willingly go out of my way, by traveling out Weed Rd. all the way to Rte. 4, and then down Rte. 4 to Torrington, just to avoid this embarrassment of a roadway. Besides the atrocious condition of the pavement, large sections really need to be completely re-engineered and rebuilt to adequately handle drainage and runoff, widen some lanes, eliminate dangerously poor sightlines at a few spots where crests of hills and rises completely blind you to what's ahead, and lay down a road-bed that will withstand the seasonal abuse. Simply repaving this dangerous stretch of road will not remedy the underlying problem. It needs to be completely rebuilt from the bottom up.
