Description
There was a tree removed from the bed on the sidewalk on Chapel street here right in front of where Scoozi used to be. When the tree was removed the stump was not completely cut down, making it hazardous for clumsy pedestrians like myself. Definitely ate it on Saturday evening. Granted I was not paying as close of attention as I could have been, but I have a feeling I'm not alone in that.
Me and my banged up and bruised knees would greatly appreciate this being taken care of. Thank you!

Probs should add photo of damage...just sayin
Hans
clumsy or tipsy?

All stumps curbside should be ground down. Are you planning to sue the city?

I didn't think to take a picture as I tended to my bloody knees and unfortunately I am out of town for the week. The beauty of SeeClickFix is that if anyone else walks by they might help a girl out and snap a pic!

I was referring to the knee damage not the tree damage :) I'll get a photo for you.

We've received your complaint and will have an inspector check out this location as soon as possible.

I'm a bit confused as to why New Haven seems to separate Cutting Down Trees from Removing Stumps. Maybe the crew that cuts the trees down needs to document the stump removal to a supervisor via image, or include some other such cross-check?

I've noticed old tree stumps in several locations downtown. There are a few along High Street as well.
After the stump is removed, the city should either:
a) replace the patch of dirt with concrete to match the existing sidewalk; or
b) plant a new tree.
It looks shabby otherwise.

Here is the damage to the more banged up knee one week out. A friend of mine tripped up in the same spot this week. Really would like to know more about why the stumps arent removed with the trees.

Emma,
That stinks. My understanding is that it's expensive to stump grind and they only do it every few years.
Obviously if it's a liability it probably makes more sense to incur the expense.

You definitely need to sue the city. The only sound the city hears is money.

Isn't the Public Works Dept. supposed to take care of this stuff?

Still no fix!

Stump still here. Waiting for me fall over it again.

Just like the stump still currently on chapel street, the scars remain! Any updates on this issue, City of New Haven?
