I do think there are traffic loops at Chestnut and Williams, it is a time based signal. This morning at 0600 hrs. I observed traffic queue on Williams Westbound from Broadway back past Winnisimmet Street was able to clear through the Chestnut Street and a time cycle of 30 seconds between when the traffic light turned green westbound at Broadway before the traffic light turned red westbound at Chestnut Street. Likely a traffic study would be necessary to decipher precisely what remedy should be instituted on timing of traffic signals on Williams Street between Pearl Street and Chestnut Street. I will inquire with the planning department.

The City recently received a $267,000 grant from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to study the Beacham/Williams/Marginal St. Corridor. This study will likely provide information on improving the timing of lights at various intersections. However, the study will take at least 9 months. So, it will be a while before any improvements are implemented. Given this timing, we will temporarily close this issue while we study this Corridor. City Manager Tom Ambrosino
