Description
The corner stoplight is not being used as it should. There is a convenience store on the corner of Barwell and Poole Rd. Drivers that are too impatient to wait for the light cycle will drive through the parking lot of the store to avoid the light. It happens almost every time there is a line of cars waiting for the light. (usually in the morning) I have seen some cars that seem to drive through the lot without even slowing down. This is an accident waiting to happen. Some morning police presence or closing one side of the entrance could help keep someone from getting hit by a car. I have included the Raleigh code of ordinances.
Sec. 11-2057. - AVOIDANCE OF OFFICIAL TRAFFIC-CONTROL DEVICES.
It shall be unlawful to drive across a sidewalk or through the driveway of a gasoline filling station or
other property for the purpose of avoiding an official traffic-control device; further, when signs have
been erected giving notice thereof, it shall be unlawful to drive across private property for the exclusive
purpose of traveling from one public street to a second public street.

I've reported this one a few times directly to the county (its their jurisdiction) and to NCDOT (who maintains the light). None of them have done anything despite including video of four near collisions due to cutting through this parking lot -- all within 7 minutes of each other. It's dangerous, especially when people sitting there at a red light decide that it's ok to let traffic crawl between them.

really bad especially at high traffic times like 4-6:30pm. they cross from poole road through the parking lot and try to snake out onto barwell rd. i even had a car one morning try to get around me at 6am why i was turning left onto barwell rd and try to pass me by going through the parking lot. and i have a green light. they just turned sharply before i could turn left at the light and sped cross the parking lot. didn't even stop. we need a median of some type put up on barwell at least or maybe close the parking lot access points on the barwell rd side. it is a wreck waiting to happen and it will be a serious wreck when i does happen.
