UDOT Traffic Signals assigned this issue to UDOT Region 3

Our Traffic Engineers have reviewed your request and have determined that for now the SB left turn at SR-68 and Commerce Dr. will remain a protected-only left turn movement. The reason this was installed as a protected-only movement was because of the horizontal curve in the roadway. When there is a large profile vehicle in the opposing NB left turn lane as there often is, then sight distance is restricted for those in the SB left turn lane. In an effort to make this intersection as safe as possible and in accordance with the departments goal of zero fatalities, we have restricted permissive left turns. We understand that most of the time this is a safe maneuver, however many times it is not. The high speeds along this roadway make the situation even more concerning. We hope you understand that we have made this decision for the public good. It is better to arrive at your destination a little late than not at all.

I too would like to see this light changed to a protected/unprotected signal. Thank you!

I am also interested in this being changed to a protected permissive light.

More green time was added to the SB left-turn light to help alleviate congestion during certain times of day. This movement will remain a protected-only movement. Thank you.
