Description
It has come to my attention that your Park Rec Department is in charge of tree trimming along our city streets. My neighbors and I are deeply concerned about the lack of attention my neighborhood is getting
even when you and the department heads have toured the neighborhood and seen the overgrowth for yourself.
I live at 151 Starr St and have 2 giant older trees that are enchroaching the other side of the street. They have been dropping smaller branches on vehicles and the roadway and sidewalks for quite some time. I
also want to bring this to your attention, the branches have entwined themselves around electrical wires and if those branches keep swaying in the wind , hit buy a truck or just come down , I am afraid it will take
the electrical service down with it or hit someone walking down the sidewalk . These trees are quite old and the root system is starting to lift the sidewalk and encompass the house where i live . I hate to think what
they are doing for the underground gas, sewer and water mains. That could be another reason to remove them.
I am a senior citizen on a fixed income and can not afford the expense of such a thing. When big trucks come down the street the tops of them drag on the branches. This is a accident waiting to happen and
would be a terrible situation and would like some help from your department

This report 4-22-17.......Someone dropped the ball and they don't care! The Heads of the park rec dept and tree trimming dept should be replaced with someone that cares about all the residents of the city not just a few.

Sorry. This issue was left open when individual tickets were created for specific trees. Please note trees are trimmed for safety, and clearance. We only remove dead, diseased, dying or structurally unsound trees. The date listed on a posting is the date that starts the public comment period for objections to removal, it is not the date that the work will be completed. Our workload changes daily as hazards change with weather, accidents and the like so we are unable to give estimates on to time frames. Please note - with over 30,000 street trees and an uncountable amount within our parks we do our best within time in resources.
Sidewalks are evaluated under a different process, during a sidewalk replacement as scheduled by engineering and DPW we will evaluate the tree based upon the construction to determine its feasibility of survival and its impact on construction.
To answer the question of equity. In 2017 Newhallville actually had the greatest number of completed tree work of any neighborhood in the City.
I hope this answers your questions. If you have a specific concern regarding a specific tree please report that concern with the address and issue.
