This sounds like a geat candidate for an abandoned/disabled vehicle. Is it currently parked on the grass? Can anyone get a picture?

No it's backed into a drive with the back end at the garage door and I don't think it runs. It hasn't been running for 3+years. As sson as I gwet my camara back I'll get a pic.

It's ONE car..in their driveway..not overlapping into anyone's yard.MAYBE there's a reason.Maybe being a GOOD neighbor should come first.Find out the reason. If my neighbor had only ONE car in his driveway...I'd have never said boo.Our neighborhood isn't at GREAT "risk" over one car.

They have three cars, They use the next door dive to get in and out. This car has been junk, disabled for more then 3+years. We've had robbers run thru our yards adn this would be a great place to hide. This si only 11 houses from cedar Greenlawn where things do happen

Three months ago when I called the City about the guy with beaucoup unlicensed and non working vehicles in his driveway,I was informed that you ARE allowed four....his number exceeds that...I think even FOUR in the kinds of driveways most of us have in this area is bizarre. You think they'll worry about ONE when a street away we have a multitude in a SMALLER driveway?Or since this home is owned by a WOMAN..will she be treated differently than the GUY on my street?Any chance we can do a little investigation and find out if there is a problem..like no money to repair it?No money for car insurance?Struggling to keep the mortgage paid?I walk my dog past there every day..never see anyone.Could this woman be in a nursing home?I want the neighborhood straightened up but I DON'T want to become neighborhood nazis.

They have 3 car's and use my drive way to go in and out. This car is a third car that has been with ourt license or tags for over 3 years. Maybe they could park it at you house.

There are different approaches. It all depends on the situation. If the neighbor is approachable, have a conversation. If not, contact the city. Most of the time, it's best to contact the city anonymously so it doesn't ruin a relationship with a neighbor.
Here's the lowdown about abandoned vehicles: Blight grows like a weed. I've seen it on my street -- and I'm seeing it all over our neighborhood. If this situation is dealt with promptly, then the problem is contained. If not, it grows -- and rapidly.
What comes with blight? Crime.
What comes with crime? A "rust belt" city roadmap.
When nobody cares about anything, the area starts to look rundown. Afterward, the criminal element moves in. Neighbors move away and drug/scum houses pop up. We have some streets that were decent places 5-10 years ago. Now we're seeing neighbors who can't wait to move away from those areas. The fight starts with code compliance and maintaining properties.
That's just my two cents. It's also called the "broken windows" theory. You can read about it here ->
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1982/03/broken-windows/4465/
There are several other community projects going on in the area. It's easy to report and complain about stuff, but it takes more to volunteer. People make the community. If you would like to step up to the plate and get involved, go to www.oldeverett.org. We have parks that need cleaning up, trees that must be trimmed and flowers to be watered.
Did you know those flowers between Cavanaugh and Jolly on South Cedar Street are 100% volunteer maintained? The city doesn't plant or water those things.
There's also a neighborhood picnic on Wednesday, June 13, in Washington Park. Please join us!

Your absolutely right.
Toby
Your assumptions are all wrong.
Bobbie
Why is it that my responses "disappear" for 24 hours before they are posted?
Bobbie
If they were using my driveway to access their OWN driveway and hadn't been granted permission....I would talk to them about the problem and if THAT didn't stop them ...I would take photos of them using my drive and call the police..It sounds like we have 2 different issues here.ONE car parked in a drive isn't something I'd get upset about.Them using MY driveway for access without permission is a DIFFERENT issue and much easier to get handled quickly by the police. Is the neighbor renting this house or is the person living there the person listed with the City.If not...do they have a rental license? All kinds of ways to solve a problem but defining it makes it easier. If this is an unlicensed rental with occupants who are using YOUR driveway for access and egress you'll find it easier to get help for those issues than you will for the one car parked in the driveway. You have posted very little information so my "assumptions" are based on trying NOT to make more of a problem than is necessary with a neighbor you MAY need to live next to for a long time.

Thank you for reporting this. I'll pass this along to Code Compliance so they can send someone out to take a look.

Now there a two vehicles with no license plates in 566 E. Greenlawn driveway the third has a August exp date.
Bobbie
The bigger problem was that this resident was driving around his cars and INTO his neighbor's driveway to enter and exit.If THAT problem has been stopped..most we can hope for. Apparently it is ok with the City if you park cars in your driveway without current tags.Maybe the owner is waiting for a paycheck to update their license and insurance....tough times in Lansing these days.
Toby
Bobbie,
you walk you dog, you keep giving answeres without knowing either of these neighbors. Please don't keep giving "what if"
Toby
Bobbie I'm the other neighbor and you have no idea about either of us you just walk your dog
Bobbie
Was that supposed to make sense?Who I KNOW isn't the issue.....I have BEEN involved ACTIVELY for over 6 months with the issue in my neighborhood..not that it seems to be making any difference.Regarding THIS issue....the neighbor was upset that these people were using her driveway to get around the car THEY had sitting in THEIR driveway. If THAT issue has been resolved.....there really isn't anything else we can hope for with the kind of help we get from the City these days.If they are STILL driving in HER driveway to get into their yard..there IS something we can do to help her.But cars apparently don't have to have current plates on them to be parked legally in a driveway the way most of us believed. Not my rules.
Toby
You just want to argue. I'm the "SHE"
Bobbie
SInce you don't appear to read well enough to understand that I'm NOT arguing with you...I'm guessing this odd behavior of YOURS MIGHT have something to do with the problem you have next door.
Toby
Your making this sight a farce.
Carol Wood
Bobbie, The Housing Code allows you have unlicensed and uninsured cars in your driveway. The car must be able to start and move back and forth.
Bobbie
Thanks,Carol...already knew about that part because of what is going on in my own neighborhood. My question is how MANY of those types of working but unlicensed vehicles are you allowed to have in your driveway?
If your own driveway is so full that you have to use your neighbor's driveway to get in and out....I agree that THAT is a problem. The poster didn't clarify whether the complaint is only about the non licensed vehicles or whether her ISSUE is that they are still using her driveway to access their own.The non licensed issue sounds like we can't fight it.....using her driveway SHOULD be something that can be handled.
Toby
I'm the poster, I live next door Bobbie I'd like you to drop it ,I've resented you posting about it. I'll get hold of compliance mysel, the car is not operable.
Toby
This has been fixed. Thank You
