Thank you for posting this. No one should have be subjected to this. As far as the City of Oakland go's all the dots need be to connected all city dept working to fix the city's problems. Calif Prop 47 has made things much worse and much easier for the criminals. I do not know what the solution is but so far it is not coming from any of Oakland's leadership.

You want to make sure that when you report these incidents that you have the right location on SCF. I notice that the address you gave for it does not correspond to the location on SCF.

When you reported it came up as 37th Ave (behind Home Depot) on SCF... whereas the address you gave is 547 24th Street... which is closer to downtown.

It doesn't help to reduce crime to throw out blanket statements such as that that have little basis in reality.

Were you cars broken into on Northgate? Car break ins happen ALL THE TIME there.

Crime is obviously a complex issue, but we really need to make Northgate more pedestrian friendly. Crime will diminish if we can get more people on the street.

Yes our cars were broken into on Northgate. the hold up was also on the corner of North gate and 24th.

That sucks. I'm sorry. Some people are pressing the city to redesign Northgate as part of their "Plan Downtown" initiative, but the city hasn't made any commitments yet. We really need to reduce the amount of space on Northgate devoted to cars and build housing there. This will make it safer for everyone.

Sheeeesh! all these auto break is are little more than a citation due prop 47. I agree armed robbery is a different issue. I stopped locking my truck after having my side window broken twice. They still go thought my truck almost weekly. They like to leave my lights on so I have a dead battery. As stated above thing are not working.

As a native Oakland Resident! I here & see a lot of complaints and whining regarding the area you live in and truth be told; know body is a bodyguard or vigilante out her! But, if you Hippsters had moved to San francisco & invested a lil time and did your Homework. You would have known that you CHOOSE to move into a historically known NOTORIOUS High Crime and Drug Traffic area! GENTRIFICATION SUCKS doesn't it!

3. I am currently a law student so money is a bit tight considering I'm living off of student loans. Therefore I did not have that many options on where I can live. The apartment I chose was realitively nice and in an area that I thought was growing.

Lastly, it is only a "high crime" area because people have made it so. Don't blame me for not doing my homework when I knew exactly what I was moving into. The fact is if people do not take a stand and do something then it will continue to be a breeding ground for criminals.
Instead of blaming the people that are trying to make the area better, your negative energy would be better focused at the city for not taking care of the streets and allowing a homeless camp down the street.

Please don't take a comment from someone like Vigilante who thinks that only people born in Oakland can live in Oakland seriously and those who move here are only tolerated. kudos to you for speaking out and taking action.

Ditto. This is the only way that things will change for the better... If we are all willing to speak out AND take action. Otherwise we are left with the festering boil of a town that Vigilante seems to prefer.

Crime can be scary and traumatic, but incarcerating more people is not the solution. The United States has locked up more people than any other country in world history. How many more should we incarcerate? Another million? Another two million?

I am so happy that you are able to know exactly how I am and how I have lived my life.
So because I have made a post referring to the issues in my neighborhood I am a "hipster" and an "implant"?
I am unsure why you keep referring to "gentrification" when you, again, know nothing about me.

Sadly, people like you will be the obstacle for change in Oakland. If you wish for your city to continue to be a high crime and high drug trafficking area, then so be it. But you will be only slowing down any progress that the good people are trying to make.

You see vigilante, I do not post or try to make a positive imprint just for my own selfish needs. I wish for Oakland to improve and grow for the future generations, for my children and your children to live in a safer environment that is growing daily.

You know why I refused to give anything to the robber? Not because I am an "implant", but because I do not want to give them a reason to come back. If I was to give in and give him my belongings, that is basically telling him that he can continue to come to my neoghborhood and rob people. It wasn't out of pride or out of my own stubborn behavior, it was because I did not want to become an enabler to criminal activity.

Again, sadly, with your attitude you are the definition of an enabler. By accepting Oakland for the way it is and not respecting these "implants" that are moving into the city to change it, you are only another obsticle of progress.

I am not an implant or a hipster, just a young man looking for a city to call home and a place that I can truly make a difference. Maybe Oakland is not for me, it definitely does not have the same forests as my small home town. But here I am, still trying to do something.
