That fence was put up by the last owner. The owners park on the sidewalk regularly even during "no overnight parking" from December 1- April 1.

Unfortunately some people will get away with whatever the police let them get away with. Obviously not a lot of civic concern with these people. In this week's Stoneham independent there is a article about a $100,000 sidewalk renovation project. It seems a shame to spend this kind of money and not still have sidewalks available to pedestrians. I also notice in the police log that they have been cracking down more and more on this offense. I just want to send out a big thank you to the police for addressing this issue.

There are actually two cars at that same location who block the sidewalk. One of them pulled in at an angle but still overhangs the sidewalk almost completely. I hope that vehicle is also addressed here.

Seriously? You all have nothing better to worry about? Ugh. I'd much rather have our police spending their time on REAL problems.

Terri. How cute of you to close this issue! I hope you don't think that anyone takes you seriously saying that children walking in the middle of the traffic to get to school is not a real issue. I guess that self-entitled people that block a public sidewalk and force people into the streets for their own convenience is OK by you. I guess it takes all kinds! Either way enjoy the ticket :-)

My apologies. I've decided to unsubscribe to SeeClickFix so that I'll not be tempted to respond in anger as I did here to an issue that is really none of my business. It angers me when people find it necessary to find fault in their fellow neighbor. It reminds me of the "tattle-tail" in grade school who feels justified in bringing others to justice. SeeClickFix encourages such behavior with their "civic points" as do our government officials by prioritizing and responding so quickly to these reports. However, as this is neither my car nor my home, it is really none of my business. I'll go back to concentrating on being a good citizen, continuing to "do the next right thing" as my Higher Power directs, and allowing others the freedom of expression as they deem necessary.

It should be noted that that the sidewalk on that side of the street does not run the full length of the street, so no matter what, you will end up walking on the street at some point. The sidewalk on the other side of the street does go the full length. It is a tight street,and parking has always been an issue, especially when there is a large wake at the funeral home. If everyone on both sides of the street parked off the sidewalk completely, there would barely be room for one lane. We can certainly start doing that, but if people are upset about having to walk around one car, they will definitely be upset when they can't pass at all. The street should either be made a one-way, or barricaded at one end. It is a major cut through for people from South School and those hoping to avoid the light at the corner. People drive way too fast and multiple complaints to the Stoneham Police and town administrator have never gone anywhere.They just pass it around among themselves and hope it the issue goes away. Ticketing someone that is on a sidewalk (that only exists in front of that specific house, mind you), accomplishes nothing.

I do not agree with you that there is not a sidewalk that extends the full length of the street. Whether it be grass or paved, there is pedestrian access the full length. Drivers have every right to seek alternative routes to Summer Street. When Summer Street is backed up from Pond Street to Main Street there is no other choice but to seek an alternative route. I agree with you 100% of that cars drive much too fast in this neighborhood that is only one block from the South elementary school. I do not quite understand your statement that this car is blocking a sidewalk that only exist in front of this one house. Even if you disregard the unpaved portion of the sidewalk, there is paved sidewalk further down on the same side. The bottom line is that cars do not belong on the sidewalk. The police do not have the time to get out of their vehicle, scope out the neighborhood, walk up and down and see if there is a sidewalk the full length of a street, before they decide to ticket a vehicle. If a vehicle is on the sidewalk, it does not belong there.
Every house on this side of the street has a driveway. This house has a driveway and a garage but has a fence they put up blocking it. That is no excuse to park on the sidewalk.
