Now that the roadwork is complete at State Street, I have noticed near-accidents each time I've approached this intersection. Previously (during the time that State Street was closed under the 91 overpass), if you were driving southbound on State in order to to turn left onto James (my daily commute), the green light essentially served as a green left-hand turn arrow. Now, I've noticed that southbound cars in front of me on State still assume that the green light means they can turn left without concern, but it seems that the northbound traffic on State Street also has a green light at the same time. Not only is this dangerous because of what people's expectations have been, it's also dangerous because the angle at which State meets State at that intersection makes them more like two separate streets, and people seem to be treating them as such. Regardless of what the State guidelines are for signalling here, it is potentially lethal as currently configured! A more conservative timing of signals is needed immediately. Perhaps a red left-hand turn arrow to prevent southbound traffic from turning while northbound traffic is continuing on State, or simple alternating who gets the green. I believe what I observed may also be true for cars coming from either of the other forks of the intersection. Please look at this before a deadly accident occurs!
