Description
Townsend Avenue is unsafe. Nathan Hale school is at this address and something needs to be done. Drivers do not stop for pedestrians in crosswalk. Cars drive at least 40mph if not faster. At this point I would say a light is necessary in addition to having school crossing signs.

We definitely need some kind of traffic light at this site, since Manny the crossing guard is fighting as losing battle with drivers who blatantly ignore him during drop off and pick up hours. It is extremely dangerous for students and parents. However, Townsend is also a state road, so I think it's not quite as simple as asking the city for a light. Maybe there could be a police presence--even just one car--there every morning and afternoon for the 15 minutes at drop off and pick up? 7:30-7:45AM and 2:00-2:15PM? That doesn't change the fact that kids put their lives into their hands when they want to cross the street and go to Delmonaco's Market durning non-school hours. Similarly, a block away at St. Bernadette Church, the street is extremely hazardous to cross during mass times on the weekend. Basically, drivers don't even slow down for pedestrians on Townsend, let alone stop.

All of Townsend Ave heading to Lighthouse is a dragstrip. Cars, cars, cars, motorcycles, roar by all day, every day. I wish they had done the parking fee for Lighthouse Park. Then, they could have tagged cars parking along the street. We need the money. Where's the quality of life for the Cove??

I've been asking for a sign for years. We finally get a sign and within months it's gone. We really need to have a neighborhood meeting where we can sign a petition to make the road a safer one. Again signs would be a great start.
