The frustration of dealing with parking issues in downtown Raleigh is high. Broken parking meters may seem small to city staff (and they make money from the tickets,) but these sorts of things are extremely annoying to citizens. Any complication of visiting DTR should be minimized.
I got a ticket in a poorly marked parking lot one night and I never went back to that area again. Too bad for the businesses that I spent my money with that night since they lost any future business from me and others I was with.
With so many electronic meters, you wonder why it takes a citizen to tell the city something is broken.

There was a lot of rain on Sept 3rd which can be problematic for any type of vending machine exposed to the elements. Wet coins become jammed in the coin chutes which trigger the machines to shut down until the chutes are cleared. Fortunately this is not an every-day occurrence although it is still frustrating to patrons. Field agents do check the machines regularly during inclement weather before issuing citations to ensure the machines are operational. The machines also send out trouble alert text messages to our technicians so they can respond as quickly as possible. The machine in this case was cleared and put back in service on Sept 4th. There have been no other meter problems in this block since then.

So you just verified to me that several meters were broken at this time due to rain, but I still have to pay $20 to the City of Raleigh because I got a ticket because the City of Raleigh's parking police issued me a ticket when the meter's were broken. Sounds like typical government bureaucracy to me. City makes money on broken equipment. I think it's time for some Facebook postings. Thanks Raleigh.
