In case you were looking for a serious response, town code chapter 13, section 13 - 3 addresses this issue. Technically it appears they are not allowed. Personally I feel as long as they are not shabby looking, or obstruct the public way, they should be allowed.
Posts like these continue to make me wonder if people have way too much time on their hands. They are clean and professional look, not handwritten on poster board. If you have so much time on your hands and think these signs are so atrocious looking, why don't you go down to Rec Park and pick up the dog poop land mines?
Guest why aren't you signing your posts? Stand behind your comment. Just because something doesn't make sense to you is fine but there are people who take pride and follow the rules. Don't dismiss someone else's complaint.
I'll be sure to go in an amend my user name to something other than the default. Regardless, this site in theory is a great idea to communicate legitimate issues with the town. it has nothing to do with making "sense to me". I wonder, or ponder, after reading post after post why people are concerned with petty things. If people want to preach stay local, keep business in town, square revitalization, why on earth would someone be busting chops over professionally done sandwich boards? I see Curtain Time in the background. Not the most esthetically pleasing looking building. What's next? Is someone going to tell them it needs a facelift? Where does it end with the nitpicking?
This is hilarious. All of it. Quite frankly, sandwich boards are movable. And the ones displayed are representative of positive growth in our town. I'm on the Farmers Market Committee and that has done a lot of good for Stoneham. Please list the positive contributions you've made in town that are worthy of any signage. And then after, if you're not busy, please kvetch about that nasty Marble Street Deli instead. Now THAT looks terrible.
I don't think the sandwich boards look terrible at all! What looks terrible are commercial vehicles parked on front lawns, the Marble Street Deli and some of our signage. Thank you to our new Selectmen over the past couple of years for helping clean up our town!
The problem is that some hardworking business owners are being fined for the town violation and others are not . They should either be legal for all or all b taken down! The farmers market is the biggest violators. .im all for growth and businesses in town....but it must b nice to have a free space to sell your goods and get to advertise all over the busiest intersections in town...when those of us who pay huge rents in this town are not allowed the same prevelige! Many who are at the market r not even Stoneham businesses!
