Description

The entire length of 7th St. from Maritime in West Oakland to Fallon St. in Chinatown has overhanging traffic signals (on an arm hanging in the middle of the intersection) in addition to signals posted on the sides, with the exceptions of 7th/Jefferson and 7th/MLK in Old Oakland. 7th/Jefferson and 7th/MLK together combine for over a dozen car collisions a year, including 1 car narrowly missing a pedestrian when it landed on the sidewalk and 1 car crashing into a building (Shoe Spot store luckily had minimal damage). Past adjustments to both intersections for All-Red has decreased red light running collisions. However, after speaking to several drivers after a crash, there are still collisions by those assuming these intersections are not signalized due to lack of overhanging traffic signals on this wide 4 lane one-way street, like the rest of the corridor.
