Description

On the corner of Central & Hammond St. downtown Bangor, right next to the restaurant there is a very slippery part of the crosswalk. Where there is dirt and something that seems to be oily on top of the fresh paint of the cross walk. I was crossing the street and was approaching the restaurant on the corner when I slipped and nearly fell. Even though I was watching where I was going because usually due to poor drainage there is mud just before the sidewalk. So it's not like I wasn't watching where I was going. Anyway, I slipped and wrenched my back trying to catch my balance. I already have back and shoulder issue for which I am starting physical therapy. It's sad that this part of a very busy intersection is so poorly managed. And don't get me started on how poorly ice is taken care of downtown in the winter. You'd think that for a city that basically resides at the North Pole would be more into snow & ice removal or do a better job. Anyway this slippery cross walk really needs to be addressed before someone slips and seriously injures themselves or some elderly person breaks something, or someone slips into traffic and gets run over. Most the side walk isn't slippery it's just a 2 or 3 foot section at the end near the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. I think the place is called Giacomo's (I'm not sure I never eat there). All I know it's got tables outside where people can sit and eat. Anyway my left ankle feels numbish and my back hurts worse than it normally does. So I'm pretty sure that this slip injured me. This has been a trouble spot for a long time due to poor drainage downtown but for some reason today (even though it's dry) it's worse. I'm getting sick and tired of spraining something in this terrible kept city. From the poorly taken care of parks to all the broken up side walks, from the terrible snow & ice removal to pot holes. You'd think the most busy part of Bangor for pedestrians would be taken better care of. Oh and what gives with a lot of the fake cross walk lights? It's not so much a problem downtown but there are areas in which the light never changes for pedestrians even if you press the fake button. I've attached a Google map pic of the area and circled the trouble spot in red. It's an old picture and doesn't show the restaurant that is on the corner today but it's the same corner. Oh and if I ever find someone who wants to sue because of slipping I will come forward as a witness. I know it's hard to sue the city but that is a very busy area in which people need to get to and from work. Incapacitating someone seriously affects their work life as well as their personal life.
