All of the lights, on the pier, have been vandalized, the glass smashed and the wiring left exposed. Some of these exposed wires might be live - shocking neglect, by the city, of this public space

It was determined a long time ago that the Sound School and Board of Education were responsible for the lights on the City Point Pier. They rebuilt the pier and put the lights there, they are responsible for the upkeep. Alderwoman Delores Colon spoke with Principal Steve Pynn of the Sound School a couple of years ago. Perhaps it is time for her to make a return visit to remind them of their responsibilities. The Sound School promised the neighborhood that if the School was expanded and the pier rebuilt that they would be responsible for upkeep. Unless that was just to get the neighbors to believe the Sound School and tell the neighborhood what we all really wanted to hear and believe. Just to get the school built???

I reported this back in Jan--obviously to no affect: http://seeclickfix.com/issues/147893-vandalized-lights-city-point-pier I had suggested in that post that they be replaced with vandal-proof fixtures (if such exist) or be capped off to eliminate the eyesore. I also questioned whether the Parks Dept. has at least some maintenance responsibility here, since there are "park rules" posted at the pier.

A bunch of the fancy streetlights along Water Street between the Aquaculture center and the Sound School buildings are also broken, as well as behind the Aquaculture Center. Are these also the Sound School's responsibility to fix?

Summer is here and this area gets heavily used and abused. Lights make it safer for all of us!

Agreed on all fronts. The pier is often filthy. After Irene, a group of neighbors cleaned the debris. I had no idea that the Sound School had any responsibility. If this is so, it's particularly concerning that the school is not maintaining the pier given that staff can visually inspect the pier on such a regular basis. Perhaps the neighborhood group should meet with the principal?
