Do as I say, not as I do!

I'd like to know why no one has contacted me. Gary the inspector for the city was by because the sidewalk replacement program didn't complete my approach driveway for 3 weeks. He stopped by to see what needed to be completed and saw 3 driveways that were missed. Mine was only half removed for 3 weeks. He agreed that the whole court needed to be replaced but that was it. I think he was just trying to make us happy. Anyway, now I have 2 HUGE pot holes in front of my new approach drive way because when they removed the old approach they busted up the street as well. Now I get huge puddles in front of my driveway as well as in front of everyones house. I called to get the potholes fixed. I cleaned all the busted up blacktop in front of my house and was told they don't have enough complaints to fill up a truck with patch,but once they get enough complaints they'll be out to fix all of mine. It's a shame that we have to follow all the RAT rules firewood off the ground no dog waste in the yard no standing water on your property and my street is worse than any street in Detroit. But if I let my grass grow to long they'll send someone out in a minute to cut it and send me a bill, same as if I don't shovel my snow. Truth is I take care of the court and shovel around the court on the sidewalk for the mail people that walk acrross the lwan anyhow. Need to move to better suburb with better city services. I know nobody at the top of the ladder will even read this but it felt good to vent.

Still no contact from any of our officials in SCS. I'm sure the problem will never be investigated,however if the city needs me to pay for something or move firewood so the rats can't make a home or my sidewalk isn't shoveled I'll here from them pronto. The gentlemen who posted a comment DO AS I SAY NOT AS I DO hit the nail right on the head. Wish I recd. more services for the taxes I pay but I guess that's the way it goes. I'll keep my house looking good and take care of the city court so it looks nice and just live with the terrible street in the court. Next election vote for anyone who is NOT currently on the council.

Does the mayor ever see how frustated the people he works for are? I pay his wages and I don't even get a response from him. If he lived on this court I'm sure the city would cut the grass fertilize sweep all the gravel out of the street since it's crumbling but since it's just a little court and a little resident I don't even get a courtesy response. The Mayors inspector was on my court and yes I call it mine because I take care of it.and no city workers do and agreed that the court needed to be blacktoped and pitched towards the sewers so the water will not stand in front of evertones house due to the huge dips due to the drains which run from our houses to the center of the court. I have 2 dead crab apple tree's on the city property on the court which should be cut down. Would take a crew about 45 minutes to take care both of the trees down and would make my court and house look even nicer. Again - I would say next election vote for anyone who is not currently on the council and maybe we can get some things done in the neighborhoods. Buffalo wild wings on 9 and harper sure got approved to be buit and I'm sure that cost more time and money then my little issue. Come on Election.

Get one of the local news stations to check it out. Have them play up how terrible city services are. Maybe then city hall will listen.

So my sidewalks and approach driveway have been completed for 9 months and I already have the bill. They want to send it to a collection agency. I didn't want new sidewalks or an approach driveway becauseI couldn't afford it.But the city does it anyway. I called last October because when they took out my approach driveway they tore about 2 feet of the street out the length of the driveway and left the hole there.I wanted them to come and correct the problem but was told they didn't have enough potholes to fill a truck to go out and fix the problems people have. I was told once they had enough pothole to fill a truck up to go fix they would be out. Well they have been out on Edgewood however passed right by my court again and the problem is still there. The whole court is full of potholes and I beleive I'm starting damage our cars pulling in and out of my drive way. I clean all the loose gravel out of all the potholes on the court so they can be filled neatly however I have to do it every weekend because the get bigger and bigger as cars drive around the court. Maybe if the city waits long enough I'll remove all the asphalt and be back down to the origanal concrete which will probablly be smoother. This whole court could use a new layer of black top and would take a day to complete. The dips in front of every house where the drain runs from the houses to the middle of the court are getting deeper and deeper. The rain water does not make it to a sewer and if I remember correctly we shouldn't have standing water on our property because the rats will come around for a drink. But as one person said above do as the city says and don't expect them to follow the same rules. I will get one of the local TV stations attention and see if they can put this on TV and everyone can see what type of services we get in SCS for our taxes. I'll start coming to the council meeting and talk about how bad the service is for 5 minutes every month and maybe they'll get sick of me and do something. For now I'll place a sheet of plywood in front of my driveway so I don't ruin my cars anymore. That should look nice. Again - next election vote for anyone who is not currently in city council. I would like to thank the forestry department as I asked them to come look at some dead trees in the middle of the court and they came out and took care of it. Kudos to whoever is in charge of that department.

Well they finally showed up to fill the pot holes on the court and did a half donkey job. missed several holes and didn place enough black top in front of my driveway. If I had a sidewalk that was a trip hazard like they left it the city would make me replace it but as someone wrote early last year. The tax must do as the city says not as the city does. I guess I sgould be happy I got some of the street fixed. Pretty sad however.

Well it's going on 3 years now since I requested MY court to be fixed. I have seen people who do not live on the court turn in by mistake and drive around the circle, under the speed limit and have seen 3 front bumpers ripped off the car because of the dips in front of each house. The dips are from the sewer drains that run from each house to the middle of the court. There are still pot holes around the whole court and a moat between the street and my new approach driveway and it looks like crap. The city will replace an approach driveway with one crack in it because the homeowner has to pay for it but try and get the city to fix something on their dime and to them it's not that bad of an issue. I was at Rite Aid the other day and a company was sweeping the parking lot, I stopped and talked to the driver to see if I could get the number to his company so I could call and see how much they would charge me to sweep the whole court, not just around the outside curb but the whole court from the curb by our houses to the curb in the middle of the court. There is so much gravel from all the new pot holes that if you had to slam on your brakes you would slide like it was ice. My boys have grown and moved away after living in this house their whole life. They used to sweep the whole court with a broom. Now that they have grown up and moved I can't sweep all of that gravel by myself. I have suggested to them when the buy a house for their family, TO PICK ANOTHER city. You’ll get better services. The city sweeper comes by maybe twice a year and sweeps the outside curb, if you want to call it that. I call it moving the gravel around so it looks like it was swept. I’m willing to pay a private service myself like I do with everything else that gets fixed on the court. And now to boot, when I sit in my yard I get to see Chapoton Apartments’ being torn down by hand. Take a couple windows out to salvage I would imagine, a door here a door there, tree branches on the roof of the apartment, am I in Detroit??? I wonder how long that project will take to complete. Probably end up like the new Wayne County jail in Detroit. One third built and then just sit there for years incomplete. Oh well, I’ve been taking care a court alone for the last 29 years I guess that's just how this city works. Maybe I'll get somewhere when we get a new Mayor and city council, a group that will actually help the people that help the city remain somewhat neat and clean.
I sure wish the city would take care of the south side of the city like they take care of the 11 mile Jefferson corner, but then again why would they? They don’t have to go to the south area every day where our homes are. They go to the nicely paved and groomed area of 11 and Jefferson.
