I also agree with Sophie - it would really be great for the stores to take responsibility for their customer's trash.

But short of that - city trash cans are the best I can hope for. There aren't any on our block currently, so it would be a start!

I wonder what would happen if every citizen because responsible for their own trash if that would improve the situation rather than always blaming someone else... I've seen people throw trash on the sidewalk not more than two feet from a public trash can...

I would love for people to not toss trash behind them as they walk down the street. If the walking patrols would start ticketing for littering, some might think twice about just tossing packaging on the street after being fined...

But a street trashcan would at least make it easier for me to clean up. I wouldn't have to bring all that trash into my home until garbage day if I could use city owned trash cans on the street.

I walk my neighbor hood daily with a grabber and a bucket. People walk and see me doing this they just eat and toss. When I make a comment I get insults hurled. What walking patrols, that went away with the wind. We unfortunately have to clean up after the arrogant generational entitlement people if we want our neighborhood clean. No if, ans or buts about it.

Nina I agree. Their families taught them that it's ok to just drop trash on the ground... "someone else will pick it up". Just like it's OK to pop out unwanted child after unwanted child... "someone else will feed, cloth, house my kids". The only way to fix the situation is to get rid of all the entitlement programs. Why are they ENTITLED? Should arrogance & laziness ENTITLE people to free housing, food, healthcare, phones, heat etc etc etc?
