Mr. Ragucci,
I was pleased to read your article about a more aggressive sidewalk repair program in our town.
Having inviting walkways for pedestrians to get out and enjoy strolling around our town is just what this couch potato society needs.
My work schedule allows me to enjoy this town during the day and I spend much of it walking or jogging around town. The problem I run into mostly are vehicles blocking the sidewalk causing a hazard for pedestrians. I know this issue has been reported here before, and when it is the police usually respond to the problem. However I am doubtful, by the amount of cars I still see every day, that the police take action on their own to alleviate this safety hazard. I usually read in the newspaper 1 or 2 times a week that the police have ticketed a violator for this problem.
I usually see dozens of cars daily around town parked on the sidewalk and wondering why this continues to be a chronic issue.
If the police can stop a speeding car on Main Street or a car running a red light, then they should be able to stop and ticket a vehicle parked on the sidewalk without being prompted.
Before we spend too much money on repairing the sidewalks, let's make sure that they remain open for their intended use. Thank you very much for addressing the sidewalk issue.
Franklin
