Description
The lights at the intersection of S Candler St. & E. College Avenue and S. McDonough St. & E. College Avenue are out of sync causing major traffic jams in the morning. It has taken me over 25 minutes to drive between the two lights this week as traffic is backed up so far. How can this be addressed? The backup in traffic goes as far down as Commerce Drive and New St. at times.
I am also concerned at the lack of turn signal at both intersections, particularly when there are children trying to cross the street to get to school as well. Drivers are frustrated from having to sit through 6 lights just to make one left turn, and it's concerning that this frustration could lead to distracted driving. Is there any way this issue can be brought up with the county?

I will have someone verify signal timing within the system and adjust as necessary. As for providing dedicated turn signals, we do have a signal upgrade project pending that will upgrade all traffic control signals in the City of Decatur. Currently, DeKalb County is acquiring right of way in order to install the new mast arms for the new signals. The upgrade project includes all controller hardware which will allow for having dedicated turn signals at South Candler Street and South McDonough Street intersections with East College Avenue. Additionally, the City of Decatur has pending intersection reconstruction projects for the same intersections to address both vehicular traffic as well as improving the pedestrian crossing facilities at both locations. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 404-377-5571.

As an Agnes Scott alum and current employee, I'm thrilled to hear about these potential upgrades! Thank you for looking into the timing on the lights as well.
