I agree with local yokel that you can put the bike racks up yourself, go or no go. I suggest that if you want to use this program to get them for free that you call the mayor's office to set that process in motion. The City workers that monitor this site are under no obligation to put bike racks,, and would need it to come through proper channels. GET THE FACTS
Get the facts... GoNewHavenGo "businesses can request a bike rack to be purchased and installed by the Department at no cost". We are a low cost artists community and want to encourage folks to ride their bikes to works/studios for health and lower emissions . I suggest YOU call the mayor's office an ask why the city is offering to install and maintain them. We pay a hefty tax and contribute to time and money to community. Its a shame folks can't be positive and supportive.
Your property, your problem! People will ride whether u have a rack or not, be honest. And why cant u be supportive and help the city by not spending money on the likes of this..Maybe the money saved could go to police protection in the less than wealthy neighborhoods!
Dawn - Why don't you question the city's motives for offering such programs. You should call your area representative and complain. Get your voice heard. You should also object to the bike lane and the money spent for meetings, paperwork, lining the roadway and the cost in man hours??? Come on you can do it.
Dawn, actually good bike racks are a good investment, and the requester has good reasons. It would be good if the money saved would be put to good use, but.. our policing problem is not a money problem . The policing problem is a corruption problem. The wealthy neighborhoods get more attention because they know how to vote, call their representatives, and unite to form a strong block,, this due to higher education and social skills on average. The same skills that made them wealthy are the skills they use to deal with the gov't.
Being supportive means spending money wisely, and paying your taxes. You get what you pay for, is the rule of thumb.. even if that's not always true,, it is true that nothing ventured , nothing gained.
The only thing I said about the bike racks is that this forum is not the proper procedure to get them.
Thank you for your comment. We received a mailing from the City of New Haven with instructions to login to the "seeclickfix" site go to "other" and request the bike rack installation. Just following instructions.
As a single mom with one pay check, mine, I know exactly how it feels. I get up every day and go to work to provide for my family. But that not the point here. The city offered a program. Usually they are funded by some state or federal entity. The money/fund is earmarked for a specific purpose and can not be use for anything but its intended purpose. If funds are established for the purpose of installing bike racks for public use that's all it can be use for and nothing more.
Hi there. Can you tell us where you would like the bike rack installed? I see that you have a pin on Temple St but I assume you'd like a rack installed at a location around Erector Square? We can only install racks on public property, which pretty much translates to installation on sidewalks. Let us know what you were thinking. Thanks.

So put a bike rack in front of your business.
Why should the city foot the bill?

Under GoHNGo, the bike racks would be installed on "...nearby public property."

Does the OP have an appropriate "public property" site in mind?
