Neighbors are being VERY gracious in discarding quality furniture!! STOP making fraudulent complaints. If an item is still there after a week then report it. MANY poorer people are being HELPED by these donations. I got a great rug 2 days ago on St. John Street and a quality table on Chapel street last week. STOP the pseudo-elite mindset please. Dear CITY: I am telling the truth. Many quality items including the lamp I placed in front of my house 2 days ago was scooped up in less than 24 hours INCLUDING a neighbors half eaten birthday cake!!
I could not disagree more with Jon. Items left on the street make the entire area look bad. They often attract additional trash and vermin as well.
If someone wants to dispose of unwanted furniture or other items, he or she should take it to a charity which accepts it (Some will pick up) or offer it on Craig's List.
In the many years I've lived in New Haven, I've seen the contents of 2 metal filing cabinets dumped on the street and the cabinets removed. I've found a someone sleeping on discarded couch. I can come up with more examples, too. .
The NH DPW does a great job removing illegally dumped items, but as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Keep up the good work, DPW.
WRONG! Look around you! Does the needy people in New Haven not bother your heart at all! I have lived in Wooster Square for 15 years. My comments are based on evidence and observation over a LONG period of time. The rich people buying pizza on Wooster street discard their boxes on the ground missing the waste baskets with LEFTOVER pizza(vermin!). An eyesore is your concern but you are untouched by the poor walking around! Why? A vast majority of items are put to good use. In the future DO NOT have the audacity to report anything unless 5 days or more has passed. I walk everyday in my neighborhood and see the actual efficiency of unused items being collected very quickly. Many times I have been beaten to an item because I waited mere hours to retrieve it: Wake-up!
Item picked up. Issue closed. If you need to report another issue please submit to See Click Fix or call Department of Public Works at (203) 946 - 7700. Thanks.
