Description
Debra and Daniel Thompson from 2209 St Albans Street feel as if they have the right to reserve a parking space in front of their house on a daily basis. They use orange traffic cones to reserve the space and often use the same cones to reserve spaces for visiting members of their family. This has been going on for years, but I would say to all who need a parking spot in the area, that they should take the orange cones, throw them on the sidewalk, and park in the available space.

If someone moves the cones and the space in front of 2209 St Albans Street is taken, Debra will then use the cones to reserve a space anywhere on the block. This picture was taken yesterday, and shows the cones reserving a space NOT in front of 2209, but further down the block.

Again, the owner of 2209 St Albans Street placed cones on the block to reserve their parking space. This time, someone ignored her illegal privatization of a public space, moved the cones to the sidewalk, and parked in the space available. You must do the same--move the cones, and park.
The actions of the owners of 2209 St Albans street are illegal and they should be fined according to law every time they use these cones to reserve a personal parking space.

maybe someone should just toss the cones in a nearby dumpster; they're actually littering, and we wouldn't put up with any other kind of litter lying around in the street all day

there is a similar situation in the vacinity of 932-936 S. 23rd street where the residents put cones and chairs out to reserve spots. i sent a message to philly 311 and they said to contact the 17th police district to make a report with them. the 17th # 215-686-3170.

Well, the situation did change for about a week--Debra actually did not put the cones out to reserve her personal parking space. But, just today, she's back to her old tricks. SO, if you see the cones which are clearly marked with 2209 St Albans Street, just move them and park. Think of it as if the Thompson's are reserving a space especially for you.

This was happening on the 1800 block of Bainbridge Street, as well. Police did not do anything, even when I called because the guy said he was going to kill me if I ever parked in front of his house again, which I had recorded on my cell phone video camera.

For the past few months, the Thompsons have not been using traffic cones to reserve personal parking spaces so I would consider this issues closed.
