Description
At the Willow St highway entrance ramp, there are two lanes, a left turn lane and a straight lane. The left turn lane has a normal traffic signal with red light, yellow light, green arrow. Next to that there's a sign indicating "LEFT TURN SIGNAL". In the straight lane, there's 2 green lights. There's no need for 2 lights in the straight lane, and it's clearly confusing for drivers. Drivers often turn left on red here instead of waiting for the left turn signal to turn green, and when waiting for the signal to turn green, I've been honked at and occasionally passed on the right by cars eager to turn left on red.
If you remove the middle light on the poles, it might be more clear that the green light is for the right lane only.

Or perhaps the green lights for the traffic going straight could be converted to straight arrows?

Its not confusing, those drivers passing you on the right and running the red light are just bad drivers.

The directional sign directly across from the end of the highway ramp at this intersection is confusing to many drivers, especially out-of-town visitors. I live in Southern Hamden, just off of Whitney Avenue, and on several occasions, visitors have turned LEFT onto Willow because that's the direction to Hamden indicated on the sign. And they go on a wild goose chase on State St to find Whitney. A new sign indicating a left turn to State Street or the skating rink and a right turn to Whitney Ave would be more informative and less confusing, especially to someone who does not know the area well.
