I am pretty sure that P.A. is like most cities in that to be able to vote, one has to LIVE in the city. If he has a complaint about the taxes, he should complain about it to city councilor that is responsible for where their business or speak up at a city council meeting. I am sure he is not the only one!

Mr. Mayor so your saying that many wrongs make a right. Prince Albert is a small town with limited business opportunities. I am sure if I ran a business such as construction I would not want to upset anyone at City Hall
in challenging existing municipal regulations. Why not extend the vote to include individuals who own businesses within the city and pay commercial/business taxes. You have limited free dumping of garbage at the landfill to only those who are able to pay their water bill.

You don't have to follow my advice. That would be what I would do anyways. But who else is a person going to say anything too? Maybe provincial government or ombudsman? Without ruffling feathers, I don't think there is anyway around it! I would just check around and see who does what etc and see who could help.I am not trying to pick a fight with anybody here, but I can't see how anyone could not deal with city hall at some point in time.

I am so glad i am reading this! This has been a concern for us. Because we too live outside the city we were not allowed to vote at the last election. AND why NOT?????? We pay city taxes and yet we can not have a say of who we want to run our city! If a petition is sent around, there are many business owners who live out of town and all feel that we have a right to voice our opinion. This rule better change......

This request makes no sense. You can't vote where you don't live. That's all there is too it. Just because you own a business doesn't mean you should get vote in the city. Does the owner of Wal Mart, Superstore, Bulk Barn or any other business get a vote? Of course not. Citizens get to vote, not business owners. You're asking to changing the national voting laws... and that just doesn't make any sense. Now, that being said as a business, he already has more power as a business to affect change in city hall because the city makes way more money of businesses than people and are more inclined to listen to them.

For all of you that think this is a good idea, remember that this would also give the owners of places like WalMart, Zellers, Sears, Super Store, Rona, Future Shop, and all the other "Box" stores a vote. I am sure that they will vote for what is in their best interests.

Zathis how are you are defining owner of business in who is allowed to vote ? Owner would not be one who sat on a board or a share holder. Voting to business owners could be defined to those who own and personally work at the place of buisiness within the municipality the business is located . The definition of personally work at is being defined as being present physically mind and body in the running of the business not operation by computer or by voting on a board in China. I am sure with a bit of brainstorming small business owners could get their fair say in a municipal election.
